April/May 2010 newsletter

A good start to the season even though the weather was not very good, but on the up for June I hope.

Hungerford
Fishes as well as always with plenty of carp showing up to 1lbs to 3lbs with the odd bigger one being caught (11lbs). All methods and bait are working 9even coco pops off the top).

Tip: fish close into the inside bank with pellet and corn.

Priory
Lots of carp being caught now they have spawned, with catches of 10 fish or more being caught, up to 20lbs. Tony (the stalker) had a 19lbs mirror floating dog biscuit at the end of the month.

Tip: for the crucians and roach float fished hemp and caster on waggler or pole will sort them out.

Moat Pond
Lots of small carp showing, especially off the top with bread. Also some good roach catches down the centre track with groundbait and casters. We had a knock up match here 2 weeks ago which Ken Giles won it with 87lbs.

Hogtrough
Starting to fish really well now that the water is warming up for all species: carp 29lbs 8oz, tench 8lbs 2oz, bream 9lbs, crucian 2lbs + and roach and rudd to a 1lbs. Fishing either early morning or late evening (not when it gets dark though!!!) fish taking most baits (corn/meats/pellets best) do not feed too much fishmeal as this attracts the crayfish. John Allen had a 24lbs mirror on the last day of the month from peg 12 on meat to 6lbs line and size 14 hook; and congratulations to Fluffy (Rob) for catching his first ever twenty (caught on pole) at 21lbs 2oz.

May the good fishing continue.

Tight lines, Ray (head bailiff)

December 2007 Rod Licence Prosecutions

If you bought someone aged 12 years old or over a fishing rod for Christmas, make sure they have a valid rod licence before they try it out.

The reminder comes as 344 anglers were brought in front of the courts by the Environment Agency in December, resulting in more than £51,000 in fines and costs.
